Biannual concert

Our Biennial concert celebrates the learning at Mudgeeraba Special School as a college campus supporting students from prep to senior schooling. We aim to differentiate the learning, access and participation for our students to support them to shine in their learning goals.

The concert displays all of our ‘stars’ who are part of Mudgeeraba Special Community and the programs that home and school provide to make them shine. The concert allows us to witness student achievement in the form of the concert which initially began in 1983 with the philosophy of every child should be a star.

Sunshine Singers

MSSS school singing group is called Sunshine Singers. It is opened to students from across the school. The students learn songs from a variety of genre. The Sunshine Singers regularly perform at aged care facilities including Mudgeeraba Nursing Home, Nerang Respite Centre, Cypress Gardens Nursing Home and Hill View House. The group also compete in the Gold Coast Eisteddfod. They are invited each year to sing at Mudgeeraba’s Carols by Candlelight.

School dance

The school dance is a social event where the school community comes together to have a fun and relaxing night. It is a night where staff and families can socialise with each other in a supportive and friendly environment.

Music therapy

Music therapy targets non-musical goals. Music therapy aims to increase opportunities for cognitive, sensory and physical stimulation, develop motor skills, target and develop communication skills, promote social skills and awareness of others, provide a medium for appropriate emotional expression and to increase self-confidence. We have a school based program run by school staff.

Communication Teacher Support

We have seen great improvements with the introduction of a committed Communications Teacher role to support the staff  and link with DET Speech Language Pathologist with communication programs such as Picture Exchange Communication Systems (PECS) and the introduction of voice output devices and the IPAD has opened up their communication world.

MOVE Support

The Mobility Opportunities Via Education/Experience (MOVE) program for students needing physical support has maximised independent access in the community. This program links with DET Physiotherapist programming.
